Furlough Ministries Part 2

CCC Ellijay, GA 06 Mack Waters

Close to four and a half decades ago I worked at the Colonial Bakery in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  My boss was Mack Waters.  It was a good job that allowed me to work at nights, study in the mornings, play and later coach soccer in the afternoons.  Yes, sleep was a luxury caught between activities and often during my 10-minute breaks every two hours at work!

Before leaving the Bakery in 1977 to begin what was then called ‘deputation’ in North Carolina, I asked several at the Bakery if they wished to receive our newsletters.  Fast forward to our 1990 furlough when I received a phone call from Mack informing me that he had retired and was raising some cattle in Georgia.  Most of all he wanted to report that he had been saved and was active in a Baptist church.  My heart almost exploded with joy.

Fast forward to 2018 when I received a letter from Missions Director of Community Baptist Church, Brother Mike Cloud.  We were invited to minister at the church on August 22nd.  The Church graciously hosted us at the General Bragg Inn in Chickamauga, GA and fed us at the Choo Choo BQ upon arrival.  We gave a ministry report to the church and enjoyed some green tea with Brother Mike and Brother Matthew. Deacon Mack Waters gave us a hospitality coffee mug.

Pastor Mike and Kim Angel were a blessing to meet.  The church family was so warm, and we were abundantly cared for with a welcome basket along with a generous offering.

Mack and Lois treated us to breakfast the next morning.  What a joy to know we are connected in Christ for eternity.

P. S. March 1, 2019 the church added us to their missionary family.  We are so blessed as we transition from ABWE to the Open Door Baptist Mission mid-year to see God's confirmation in this way.
